Welcome to TheTreeCarbonCompany.com.  As the name suggests, this site is dedicated to the part trees can play in the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions ("GHG") emissions permitted under an agreement known as the Kyoto Protocol. This agreement was the culmination of a series of meetings held around the world in line with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change ("UNFCCC").

The UNFCCC was established to deal with concerns about observations that temperatures around the globe were rising. There was evidence that man-made GHG emissions [the main ones being carbon dioxide (primarily from burning fossil fuels - oil products and coal), methane (primarily from decomposing waste and the digestive systems of farmed animals) and Nitrous oxide, again from animals and industrial processes] were a contributing factor. In an attempt to ensure everyone was "on the same page" with regards to the science, a body called the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change ("IPCC") was set up to coordinate the scientific data.

As present, outside the EU where an internal version exists, no country other than NZ has implemented an emissions trading scheme ("ETS"). Time will tell whether or not this is economic suicide and an inspirational move.  There is very little, if any, money on the latter!
